Travelling to and around Minehead!

Most visitors do come by car, but there is public transport available and it is a good idea sometimes to leave the car behind and use our local coach, bus and rail facilities to help you enjoy the coast and countyside better. This is especially important for walkers who are exploring Exmoor or the coast path and would like to avoid the need for a circular trip. In the future we hope fora through rail connection to Taunton and perhaps even a ferry service to Cardiff!

Getting to Minehead

By Road Minehead is located on the A39. From the M5 motorway use junction 24 at Bridgewater, then follow signs to A39 Minehead or use junction 25 at Taunton, then the A358 ( avoiding Taunton Town centre), joining the A39 at Williton. Allow at least 30 mins on either route.

By Coach or bus There are seasonal National Express coach services to Minehead (Tel: 08705 808080: Web: www.national-express.co.uk ). Alternatively pick up a coach to Taunton and change to the First Group local bus service to Minehead (Tel: 01823 272033; Web: www.firstbus.co.uk )

By Rail Taunton is the nearest mainline rail station - National Rail Enquiries Tel: 08457 484950 Web: . There is a regular First Group bus service to Minehead departing from the south side of Taunton Station. Journey time is just over 1 hour.

The West Somerset Railway operates steam and diesel train services on many days between mid March and the end of October from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead. First Group runs buses from Taunton to Bishops Lydeard - for details telephone 01823 272033. Combined tickets are available from the bus driver. Rail passengers can book combined tickets from selected stations to Minehead including rail travel to Taunton and the bus to Minehead. Tickets may be booked by telephoning Great Western Trains on 0845 700 0125. Most credit/debit cards are accepted and 5 working days should be allowed for tickets to be posted. Minehead now houses a fully operational TURNTABLE which has greatly increased the visitor attaction to the West Somerset Steam Railway
